Carnival accident in Aerdt: driver was trapped under own vehicle

A carnival procession in Aerdt took a dangerous turn Saturday afternoon when a float rolled backward off a dike, causing the tractor pulling it to overturn. The driver became trapped under the vehicle and was run over.

The incident occurred midway through the parade. Another person on the float managed to jump to safety just in time, avoiding serious injury.

Emergency services, including a trauma helicopter, responded to the scene. Ambulance personnel treated the driver on-site. "He sustained a minor leg injury," police stated.

Parade participants and floats were redirected around the accident site to allow emergency responders space to work. Witnesses reported heightened emotions among members of the carnival association.
