High-speed police chase in Rotterdam ends in crash
A high-speed police chase through the center of Rotterdam ended Sunday morning when a car crashed into a pole at Oostplein, leaving the driver trapped inside the wreckage.
The chase began on the Maasboulevard when officers signaled the driver to stop. The man ignored the order, leading police on a pursuit through the city. Officers briefly lost sight of the vehicle before it slammed into a pole at high speed.
The impact severely damaged the car, scattering debris across the road. The driver was trapped inside and had to be freed by firefighters using hydraulic rescue tools. The operation took about an hour, according to local broadcaster Rijnmond.
The driver was taken to a hospital and was conscious when police arrived. A passenger managed to exit the car and fled the scene. Authorities are searching for him. During the search, police found nitrous oxide and alcohol inside the vehicle.
