Tension between players and fans at PSV after draw; Utrecht fail to win again
PSV had another disappointing night on Saturday as they drew 1-1 with Willem II. The result led to Ajax taking over the top spot in the Eredivisie. PSV’s recent form has been concerning. Peter Bosz’s side have failed to win in three out of their last four Eredivisie matches, which led to tensions between the players and fans on Saturday.
Noa Lang had given PSV the lead in the 62nd minute before Willem II equalized in the 83rd minute through Mickaël Tirpan. This followed PSV’s failed matches against NEC (3-3 draw) and PEC Zwolle (3-1 loss). The tension was clear as PSV fans whistled the teams.
Guus Til responded with annoyance during the match, and Lang added to this with his post-match comments: "We played well for a year and a half," he said. "Now it's been bad for a month and a half. I think this is a shame. I think it's ridiculous, but the whole team thinks so. This is genuinely a theme in our team. But apparently, they can play better football than we can. We must stand up on the field, but our crowd can also do better. We need them when we are having a hard time. Aren't we one club? We have to help each other."
The Eindhovenaren will have to get back into shape quickly as they face Juventus on Tuesday in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off round. They will then face FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie next weekend.
The Utrechtenaren are also in a bad patch of form. Ron Jans’s side lost to bottom-of-the-table team Almere City at home on Sunday. This made it eight matches without a win.
A goal from Junior Kadile gave Almere a deserved win against Utrecht in the Galgenwaard. However, the victory did not help Almere in their relegation fight as much as you would expect due to the team above them, RKC Waalwijk, continuing their fantastic run of form under manager Henk Fraser by hammering NAC Breda 5-0.
RKC is now just three points behind 16th place Sparta Rotterdam, which is the spot for a relegation play-off. Sparta lost 3-0 to their city rivals Feyenoord on Saturday evening.
