Injuries after stabbing in Amsterdam's Rembrandtplein, Shootings in Rotterdam, Groningen
A series of violent incidents across the Netherlands over the weekend left multiple people injured, with police making arrests in at least one case.
In Amsterdam, a 23-year-old man was seriously injured in a stabbing early Sunday morning on Utrechtsestraat, near Rembrandtplein, police confirmed. A suspect, also 23, was arrested on suspicion of attempted manslaughter. The stabbing occurred around 5 a.m. following a conflict between two groups of men. The cause of the dispute remains under investigation.
After the stabbing, the suspect initially fled but was apprehended shortly after. Officers used a taser during the arrest.
“The victim had a significant stab wound,” a police spokesperson said. “He was conscious and transported to the hospital.” Authorities declined to disclose his place of residence, citing privacy concerns. The suspect is from Velsen-Noord and remains in custody.
In Rotterdam, a 26-year-old man was wounded Saturday evening after being shot on Fuikstraat in Rotterdam-Crooswijk, police said. No arrests have been made.
At 6:20 p.m., police received a report of a bleeding man inside a car on Pootstraat. Officers found the man with a gunshot wound. Investigators later determined he had been shot earlier on Fuikstraat before driving away.
The victim was involved in a collision on Ommoordsestraat before stopping on Pootstraat, where a bystander called emergency services.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the shooting and are searching for suspects. Authorities urge anyone with information or footage to contact them at 0900-8844.
In Groningen, one more violent incident occurred early Sunday near the Suikerunieterrein on Energieweg. One person was injured in a shooting, and police quickly took a suspect into custody.
Police received reports of gunfire just before 2:30 a.m. According to a 112 photographer on the scene, a party had just ended when the shooting occurred.
