Foul play suspected: Neighbor finds man's body in Amsterdam apartment storage space
Police in Amsterdam were investigating the death of a man whose body was found by a neighbor in an apartment building on Clauskindereweg in Osdorp. The resident discovered the body on Monday morning in the hallway of the building's basement storage area, and contacted the authorities immediately after. Investigators said they suspect foul play.
Emergency services records show that two ambulances were dispatched to the scene at about 11:05 a.m., and a medical trauma team was sent by helicopter. A few minutes later, police officers were also sent to the area for reports of a shooting. It was not immediately clear if the suspicion of gunfire was connected to the man’s death.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and police said they were trying to determine the cause and manner of his death. Authorities were also trying to determine if the man was alive for a period of time, but trapped in the storage area and unable to get help. "Detectives assume a possible crime, and have started an extensive investigation," the police wrote in an update.
Forensic investigators were at the location, and the crime scene was cordoned off. A mobile command office was also brought to the area for the ongoing investigation. Social services were being arranged for the resident who made the grisly discovery, police said.
Investigators are appealing to witnesses and anyone with information to come forward. Police are particularly interested in security camera or dashcam footage from the area.
