Ice sculptures celebrating Amsterdam's history at the "Art Below Zero" exhibition

A new exhibition featuring intricate ice sculptures inspired by Amsterdam's history and iconic landmarks opens this weekend at the Central Market Hall in Amsterdam-West. Titled Art Below Zero, the show presents the work of international ice sculptors, showcasing sculptures of Anne Frank, Johnny Jordaan, the canals, and the Royal Palace on Dam Square.

The tickets to the event are on sale, with adult tickets priced at 19.50 euros and child tickets at 14.50 euros.

In celebration of the city’s 750th anniversary, the exhibition also includes ice renditions of the Rijksmuseum and the former Palace of Volksvlijt, which burned down in 1929. Other sculptures depict the Artis Zoo and Paradiso concert hall.

More than 350,000 kilograms of ice were used to create the exhibition. Visitors can enjoy the show, which runs through March 2, 2025, and take breaks at an "ice bar" featuring Amsterdam-style folk music.

An audio tour covering the city's history and an ice sculpting workshop are also available for guests.
