PSV are handed their second 1-0 loss in a week by Heerenveen
PSV lost their second match in a week on Sunday against SC Heerenveen. It was also the Eindhovenaren’s second loss in the Eredivisie this season. Heerenveen picked up a surprise 1-0 win in a fixture that finished 8-0 to PSV last season.
Peter Bosz’s side also lost on Tuesday in their UEFA Champions League match against Stade Brest. The solitary goal of the game came in the 74th minute when Ryan Flamingo’s mistake was punished by substitute Ion Nicolaescu.
Bosz was very displeased after the loss against Brest and did the post-match analysis straight after arriving back in Eindhoven, as opposed to the customary day later. The manager from Apeldoorn will have been expecting a response against Heerenveen, but this did not come.
Noa Lang and Johan Bakayoko started on the bench. Ivan Perisic and Malik Tillman were preferred to start the match on the wings. Midfielder Joey Veerman made his first start since September, having just returned from an injury.
Heerenveen, who are still unbeaten at home this season, were brave in their pressing and dominated the match. Dimitris Rallis scored the first goal of the match for the home side, but the goal was disallowed for offside. PSV did not create any notable chances.
Lang was brought on after halftime to replace Ismael Saibari, but this did not change much in the match. Tillman had an opportunity to score in the 64th minute, but his shot went just wide of the goal. Flamingo also caused some danger a few moments later.
Heerenveen survived this phase and struck 15 minutes from the end of the match through Nicolescu.
PSV pushed to find an equalizer, but they were not convincing. It is the first time that the Eindhovenaren have lost two matches in a row since Bosz became manager.
The last time that PSV failed to score in an Eredivisie match was almost two years ago. This happened in January 2023 in a 1-0 loss to FC Emmen.
