Airconditioning company from Warmond wins worst slogan of the year award

“Vandaag weer een tevreden klant koud gemaakt” by an air-conditioning installer was named worst slogan of the year 2024. “Koud gemaakt” in Dutch is a way of saying someone was killed. The slogan is translated to “another satisfied customer made cold.” It was invented by Aircare Airconditioning in Warmond and won with a quarter of all the votes.

Around 5,000 people voted for the award over the last few days. A jury of the platform Bad Slogans had nominated ten slogans. “Bedankt dat je voor ons hebt gekiest” from the dental practice Grumman’s & Fa Tandartsen came in second with 13% of the votes. Kiezen means to choose in Dutch, but kies is a word for a tooth.

Third place went to “Don’t vlaai away” by the tourist side Visit Zuid-Limburg. Vlaai is a Dutch pastry consisting of dough and filling.

“When my boys drive away from a customer I have said for years that they just made somebody ‘koud,’” Roy van Velzen of Aircare Conditioning said about the origin of the slogan. “At one point, we decided to put the slogan on our van, and then we added ‘tevreden’ (pleased).

Van Velzen will soon receive the Blue Tile with the winning text on it from the organization. It was the 13th time that the award has been held.

Earlier winners included “My balls weigh 130 grams” from a meat delivery service, “zit je haircut,” which is a play on the word kut in Dutch, used by a hairdresser, and “put the fun between your legs” from a bike rental company.
