Suspect in pregnant Chinese student's murder in Haarlem now on Europol most wanted list
Europol has added Jian Xia, a Chinese national, to its Most Wanted list for his alleged involvement in the 2004 murder of a pregnant woman in Haarlem. Authorities believe Xia may be living in Spain under a different name.
The victim, a 31-year-old Chinese student, was found strangled to death in an apartment on Boerhaavelaan in Haarlem. She was seven months pregnant at the time of the murder.
Following the murder, Xia is alleged to have stolen personal belongings from the victim, including her bank card. He is believed to have withdrawn 1,000 euros using the stolen card. Police last tracked Xia to the Antwerp area on December 21, 2004, but no further leads on his whereabouts have emerged since then.
Jian Xia is one of 24 new names added to Europol’s Most Wanted list. Europol has emphasized that a single tip could make the difference in solving these cases.
Three other suspects wanted in the Netherlands are also on the list. Among them are Sami Bekal Bounouare, wanted for murder, and Jos Leijdekkers, nicknamed “Bolle Jos,” who is wanted for organized crime and drug trafficking. Another fugitive, Marco Ebben, has been reported deceased by some media outlets, though this has not been confirmed.
