Area searched in Belgium where the skull of a Dutch woman was found over 30 years ago
The Dutch police started a search on Wednesday morning on a nature reserve in Maasmechelen, Belgium, connected to the disappearance of 18-year-old Angelique Hendrix from Stein, Limburg, in 1990. The investigation is taking place in the area where a skull was found in 1991 that was only recently determined to be hers.
According to the Dutch police, the search is geared toward possible traces and items that could have been owned by the 18-year-old. “Belgian authorities searched the area in 1991, and no human remains were found at the time,” the police added.
However, according to the police, the area is now being thoroughly investigated again, more than 30 years later. The search is expected to take several days and is being performed by the Belgian authorities at the Dutch police’s request. Detectives of the Limburg police will be present during the search.
Angelique Hendrix left her parent's home on her bike on July 13, 1990, and was never heard from again after this. Police reported around two weeks ago that she is not alive anymore. Her skull was found just over the Belgian border in Maasmechelen in 1991, but a DNA match was only recently discovered, the police announced.
