Amsterdam taxi driver robbed, abducted; Escapes from trunk of own car
Two men robbed and abducted an Amsterdam taxi driver during the early hours of Monday morning. They forced him to get into the trunk of his own taxi and drove off with him. He later managed to escape, the police said. Investigators are looking for witnesses.
At around 2:30 a.m. on August 12, two men got into a taxi on Rokin in Amsterdam and told the driver to head to Amstelveen. A short while into the ride, they pulled two weapons, threatened the driver, and robbed him of various personal belongings, the police said.
In the Kostverloren neighborhood of Amstelveen, they tied him up and forced him into the trunk of his own taxi. The driver felt the taxi start moving again. After a ride of “several dozen minutes,” the car came to a stop.
Some time later, the taxi driver managed to get out of the trunk via the car’s back seat. He discovered he was on Boelelaan in Amsterdam-Zuid and saw no trace of the men who robbed and abducted him. He quickly called the police. “The victim is very shocked but, fortunately, not seriously injured,” the police said.
The police are looking for the perpetrators. The first suspect is a Spanish-speaking man between the ages of 20 and 25. He has tanned skin and short, black hair that “was very flat on the head.” At the time of the crime, he wore a black T-shirt, cotton or linen dress pants, black shoes, and a thin summer jacket.
The second man also spoke Spanish and seemed to be around the same age. He has tanned skin and black hair. He was wearing a dark shirt, black jeans, black shoes, and a thin summer jacket.
The police are looking for witnesses or anyone with information or camera footage relevant to the investigation.
