Traffic jams galore as roadworks start on A2 in Utrecht, Amsterdam ring road
Road users in and around Amsterdam and Utrecht can expect heavy traffic in the coming weeks. Rijkswaterstaat is starting road works on the A10 in Amsterdam and on the A2 near Utrecht. Railworks also halted train traffic to and from Amersfoort Central Station until Sunday.
The inner ring road of the A10 toward Amsterdam-Oost closed last night between Durgerdam and Watergraafsmeer. It will be closed until September 9. The A8 connecting to the A10 Noord is also closed. Road users can detour via the outer ring and expect extra travel time of up to an hour, AT5 reported.
Over the summer, the Rijkswaterstaat worked on the outer ring of the A10, leading to heavy traffic in and around the city, especially in the first two weeks. That work has now been completed.
The A2 toward Den Bosch will be closed at Utrecht between the Oudenrijn junction and the Everdingen junction from 9:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rijkswaterstaat will replace the asphalt on the road. The highway will be completely closed from Thursday evening to Monday morning for five weeks, RTV Utrecht reports. During the week, fewer lanes will be available.
The work is expected to last until September 23. Until then, road users can expect an hour of extra travel time. Traffic will be diverted via the A12 and the A27.
ProRail is also doing railworks around Amersfoort from today. No trains will run to and from Amersfoort Central Station until Sunday. The rail manager has been working on the station there all summer and expects to complete the work in the coming days. Buses will run instead.
