Nine Dutch arrested on Mallorca for trashing their hotel rooms

The Spanish police arrested nine young Dutch tourists in Mallorca on Sunday for trashing their hotel rooms. They were arraigned on Monday. The court released them from custody, but confiscated their passports until they’ve paid the over 2,000 euros in damages, the Telegraaf reports.

The Dutch tourists are between the ages of 18 and 20. The police arrested them at the Son Sant Joan airport on Sunday when they were about to return to the Netherlands.

They were staying at the MLL Palma Bay Club Resort in S’Arenal, a popular area for young Dutch holidaymakers. On Sunday, they suddenly left the three-star hotel without checking out. When cleaners went to clean the three rooms they stayed in, they found devastation.

Among other things, the Dutch young people had broken a large hole in a dividing wall so that they could move between rooms 1603 and 1604 without going into the hallway. They also smashed the television screen in room 1611. The staff immediately informed the hotel management, who called the police.

Cops from the Playa de Palma police station tracked the nine Dutch to the airport and arrested them there. According to the newspaper, they refused to make a statement in court on Monday. The judge released them from custody but confiscated their passports until they paid 2,070 euros for the damage they had caused.
