More Amsterdam statues tagged with free Gaza graffiti
On Sunday, graffiti was discovered on several other statutes in Amsterdam-Zuid, in addition to the statue of Anne Frank on the Merwedeplein. A spokesperson for Mayor Femke Halsema and a police spokesperson confirmed this following reports by AT5.
Tagged statues include one of Mahatma Gandhi and the resistance monument on Apollolaan. The words Free Gaza were written on the latter in purple paint, as can be seen in photos. In total, six statues were vandalized with graffiti, said the spokesperson for the Amsterdam police. The municipality filed a report.

The municipal spokesperson said the statue of Anne Frank has since been cleaned, and the other statues are also being cleaned.
The graffiti on the Anne Frank statue happened on the day that she was arrested by the German occupiers exactly 80 years ago. The Anne Frank Foundation was horrified by the graffiti. On July 9, the statue was also the target of vandals.
