Transavia scraps Beirut flights due to Israel-Lebanon tensions

Transavia has canceled its flights to and from Beirut on Monday, the airline announced. Earlier in the day, the German Lufthansa also said it would not fly to Beirut until at least August 5. Tensions between Israel and the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon seem on the verge of escalating.

Transavia is the only airline that flies from Schiphol to the Lebanese capital. It has a flight from Schiphol to Beirut scheduled for Wednesday. According to a spokesperson for Transavia, it is not yet clear whether it will go ahead.

Air France also announced that it will not fly between Paris and Beirut on Monday and Tuesday due to the “security situation” in Lebanon.

Since Saturday’s rocket attack on the city of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights, a Palestinian territory annexed by Israel, the threat of an Israeli attack on Beirut and other places in Lebanon has increased rapidly. Twelve young people were killed in that attack.
