Vlugtenburg beach in Zuid-Holland the cleanest in the Netherlands

The beach Slag Vlugtenburg in 's-Gravenzande has been declared the cleanest beach in the Netherlands, the organization Strand Nederland, which is the beach organization of the Netherlands, announced. The beach was given a 9.84 rating out of 10 and is, therefore, the best of the 94 beach locations that were inspected. The beach in Zuid-Holland did just about better than the second-placed beach on Hollum in Ameland. That was given a 9.83 score.

Inspectors visited every location three times. The first round of inspections was in May, and then they returned twice up to halfway through July to see how clean the beaches were. Four grades were handed out based on this: for the parking lot, the beach entry, the area of the beach pavilion, and the state of the beach up to the coastline. "And then the differences can be minimal," said a spokesperson for the organization.

According to Strand Nederland, Slag Vlugtenburg's victory was partly due to the good cooperation of various parties. "The rescue brigade, the beach pavilions, the cottage rental companies. It radiates something nice and beautiful," said the spokesperson. Last year, the beach received an 8.67 out of 10.

The inspectors said that the Dutch beaches are in good shape. "It is with a few exceptions a joy to inspect the Dutch coast," stated Strand Nederland, who organized the beach inspections with the Directorate General for Public Works and Water Management.

"The inspectors noticed that beach entrepreneurs and governments are working hard on awareness and clean behavior of the guests. This seems to translate into less and less litter."
