According to the police, the incident occurred under the bridge near the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. Officers found the victim seriously injured in a car around 2:30 a.m. after reports that several shots had been heard in the area. Emergency services tried to resuscitate the man, but he died on the spot.

The police cordoned off the area under the bridge, and the Forensic Investigation Service started to conduct extensive forensic investigations.

A search was made in the area for a suspect in vain, including using a police helicopter. The police are further investigating the circumstances of the shooting incident and the identity of the victim.
