Suspects used 200 liters of petrol for Tarwekamp explosion; charges now raised in case
Three of the four suspects arrested for the explosion at the Tarwekamp apartment complex will now also be prosecuted for murder or manslaughter and attempted murder or manslaughter. The other suspect is only facing arson charges. The explosion at the Tarwekamp apartment complex in The Hague was set using 200 liters of petrol. This resulted in the death of six people.
The petrol was used to set fire to the intended target, a bridal store inside the building. The store was owned by an ex partner of Moshtag B., a 33-year-old from Rotterdam who planned the attack.
B. is one of three suspects now facing charges related to the death of the six victims. Two cousins from Roosendaal, Mourad, and IIyas, are also facing these charges. They were allegedly paid 1,500 euros each to carry out the attack. Adil A., a 33-year-old from Oosterhout, is suspected of arson and preparing to commit arson. Prosecutors reported that the men were planning on committing the attack a week earlier, but were stopped by authorities.
The summons was served today to the suspects’ lawyers. The victims were also informed about this development. The prosecutors will provide further explanation during the first public pro forma hearing at the court on March 14.
Several buildings collapsed as a result of the explosion on Saturday, December 7, 2024. The residents affected by this are currently still in temporary housing. They were handed a check worth 15,000 euros each as a result of crowdfunding last week.
