University lecturer stabbed at Eindhoven institution; Suspect on the run
A lecturer at the Fontys University of Applied Sciences was threatened with a knife, then stabbed on the Rachelsmolen in Eindhoven on Thursday morning, according to Omroep Brabant. The lecturer sustained minor injuries. The police evacuated the campus while looking for the suspect, who witnesses said may have been a student.
Emergency services first responded to the Fontys University of Applied Sciences at around 8:40 a.m. Multiple units were dispatched.
The police did not confirm that a student and lecturer were involved, only saying that the incident resulted from a fight between individuals and was not a random crime targeting the institution or an act of terrorism.
“We are investigating a threat around 8 a.m. in an educational institution at the Rachelsmolen in Eindhoven,” the Oost-Brabant police said. “One person suffered minor hand injuries in a skirmish with a knife.”
The building was evacuated as officers tried to find the suspect. In an internal message to emergency services, dispatchers wrote, “Multiple police units are searching for a suspect in the area of Rachelsmolen, Eindhoven.”
The Fontys location on Rachelsmolen, which opened in March, offers a wide variety of courses, including paramedic training, nursing, and social services. The location also hosts studies in economics, communications, and information technology.
