Dutch hitman sought in Marbella assassination; Dutch man held in drug bust there

Police in Spain are looking for a 29-year-old Dutch man in connection with the fatal shooting of a French man in Cabopino, Marbella. The man in his 60's was gunned down on the street at about 8 p.m. on Tuesday when he was walking to his car, according to local newspaper Diario Sur.

The newspaper said the Dutch suspect, an alleged contract killer, is well known by police in the area, and should be considered “very dangerous.” He was described as being 1.80-meters tall, thin, and having a beard. There was no description of the second suspect involved in the shooting.

The victim was reportedly shot by two masked men who had been waiting in a blue Renault Megane rental car, which was also used as a getaway vehicle. The car smashed through a tollway gate, and then was set on fire and abandoned in Mijas, about 25 kilometers from the murder scene.

It was the fourth murder linked to organized crime in the past month on Malaga, with most of those taking place in Marbella, the newspaper reported. Still, police do not believe the homicides, and an apparent attempted murder, are linked.

About two weeks ago, a 39-year-old British man was shot dead in front of his home in Mijas when he was ambushed by gunmen, according to El Mundo. He was wanted for questioning over the trafficking of hash and marijuana in the area.

Spanish police on Thursday announced the arrest of a Dutch man and a British man who were accused of cultivating marijuana in a villa in Mijas. Some 450 cannabis plants were found in the underground grow house, along with 6.5 kilograms of dried, packaged cannabis, 3.8 kilograms of hash oil, a car and about 2,500 euros in cash.

Authorities did not immediately say if the drug bust was linked to any of the murders in the area.
