Amsterdam Zuidas work done; Highway, train stations reopen

The construction work done in Amsterdam Zuidas over the weekend was completed during the early hours of Monday morning. Parts of the A10 and A4 highways that were closed for the work, reopened slightly earlier than the planned 5:00 a.m. on Monday.

The highways were closed since 10:00 p.m. on Thursday evening. Train stations Amsterdam Zuid and Amsterdam RAI were also closed for part of the weekend. This was so that a roof section for a new passenger tunnel could be installed. The roof section weighs around 3 million kilograms, according to NU.nl. Part of the road surface and train tracks had to be removed, and later replaced, for the installation.

The construction work is part of the large Zuidasdok project. The project also includes expanding the A10 South from four lanes to six, which will disappear underground in the heart of the Zuidas in the future. And completely renovating Amsterdam Zuid station, in order to cope with the large flow of travelers to and from Schiphol Airport. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in 2028.
