Child admitted to hospital in critical condition; police investigating

The police launched an investigation in and around a home in Wormerveer in connection with an incident in which a "very young child sustained serious injuries". The child was admitted to hospital in critical condition over the weekend. Exactly what happened, is not clear.

The police believe the incident happened in a home on Kerkstraat. A mobile police post was set up at the home on Wednesday. Black screens shielded the scene from the public, according to a photos taken at the scene.

"In the interest of privacy and the investigation, no further announcements can be made", the police said.
