Cop prepared to murder ex-husband because he abused their son: report
The 41-year-old cop from Gorinchem arrested for preparing to murder her ex-husband wanted the man killed because he had abused their teenage son multiple times, multiple sources told the Telegraaf. Jerney van E. and two other suspects are still in custody and will appear in court in mid-September.
According to the Telegraaf’s sources, Van E. pressed charges against her ex early this year, accusing him of abusing their teenage son and youngest daughter. The 57-year-old man was arrested in January and released shortly afterward. The investigation into his alleged abuse of his son is still ongoing, the Rotterdam Public Prosecution Service (OM) told the newspaper.
Van E. was not happy with the turn of events and decided to take matters into her own hands. She and two friends approached two men, asking for help finding a weapon or a person to kill her ex, the sources said. Van E. even showed video footage of the boy being abused to the men they approached, the sources said. “It’s so bizarre. It’s like an episode of Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden,” one source said, referring to a Dutch soap opera.
In June, Van E.’s minor son felt remorse and went to the police, telling them that a hitman would kill his father within days, the sources said. The police took swift action, arresting Jerney van E., her teenage son, and four other suspects.
Two of the suspects are Van E.’s friends, a 19-year-old and a 42-year-old from Gorinchem. The OM suspects these women of involvement in the search for a hitman or weapon. They, along with Van E.’s son, have been released from custody but are still suspects.
The other two suspects are a 19-year-old man from Ermelo and a 37-year-old man with no registered place of residence. According to the Telegraaf, the 19-year-old man agreed to commit the murder in exchange for 5,000 euros. Van E. and her friends approached the 37-year-old months ago, asking for help with finding a weapon or hitman. He hadn’t heard from them in months and thought the plan had been called off.
Van E. and the two men are still in custody and are due to appear in court for the first time in mid-September. Van E. worked as a uniformed police officer in the Barendrecht basic team but has been home on sick leave for a long time, the newspaper’s sources said.
The police officer’s ex denies abusing his children. “My client claims that the report of abuse of his son, filed by his ex-wife, is false. In addition, she also filed a report of abuse of their youngest daughter,” his lawyer, Oliver Much, told the Telegraaf. “The judge quickly concluded that there was no evidence of abuse of his youngest daughter. The investigation into the abuse of his son is still ongoing, and the OM has yet to make a decision on this case. My client was released shortly after his arrest because there was no need to detain him any longer, and he says he is completely innocent.
The OM would not comment on the Telegraaf’s information. “The investigation is still in full swing,” a spokesperson for the Rotterdam OM told the newspaper.
