Man arrested for firing hunting rifle at police through Tilburg window

The police arrested a 37-year-old man on Tuesday for firing a hunting rifle at police officers through the window of a Tilburg home. Officers fired a warning shot during the arrest, the police said in a statement.

The police responded to the home on Matterhornstraat at around 9:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a possibly disturbed man who may want to take his own life. At the scene, they heard a man screaming from inside the house. The control room informed responding officers that the man had previously caused trouble and is known to own weapons. Various weapons were found at the back of the home, including a knife, a hatchet and a crossbow, the police said.

One of the officers spotted the man in the window. He had a gun in his hands. According to Brabants Dagblad, it was a hunting rifle. The man suddenly broke the window in the front door and fired the gun at the officers, according to the police. He then threw the gun outside and walked back into the house.

The police eventually managed to convince the man to leave the house. Once outside he refused to follow the police's instructions, the police said. One officer fired a warning shot, after which the man could be arrested. No one was injured.
