Amsterdam criminal killed in "targeted attack" at subway station

A 33-year-old man was killed in a shooting near the Kraaiennest subway station in Amsterdam Zuidoost on Saturday night. The police identified the victim as Inchomar Balentien from Amsterdam and confirmed that he had a criminal record.

The shooting happened shortly before midnight in a parking lot at the subway station. Several people were standing in the parking lot when a black Renault Megane arrived, the police said in a statement. Multiple shots were fired. Balentien was hit and died at the scene. The other people in the parking lot fled. As far as is known, no one else was hurt. The police have a "strong suspicion" that this was a targeted attack.

The police's forensic team found multiple bullet holes and dents at the scene of the shooting, as well as at nearby homes on Kleiburg. A burnt out vehicle was found a few kilometers away, at Gaasperplas. The police are investigating whether this vehicle was involved in the shooting.

Balentien was a well known criminal in the Amsterdam underworld, RTL Nieuws reports. A family member told the broadcaster that Balentien was worried about something happening for some time. "But he really was a closed person. He kept everything to himself. Sometimes he said something like 'with God's will and that', but coincidentally he said three months ago that he felt something coming and had to be extra alert."
