Amsterdam coffeeshop closed after discovery of hand grenades

Coffeeshop New Times on Spuisstraat in Amsterdam was closed by request of the municipality after two hand grenades were found there over the weekend. The coffeeshop agreed to close for a week, after which the municipality will decide whether further closure is needed, AT5 reports.

The first hand grenade was found near a parking garage at New Times early on Saturday morning. The second was found on the pavement in front of the coffeeshop at around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday. Spuistraat was closed down for several hours on both days, while explosive experts removed the grenades.

This is not the first time a hand grenade was found on Spuisstraat. Early this month, on April 5th, a grenade exploded in front of the entrance to club Mad Fox, located under Hotel W Amsterdam. The club was also closed by order of the municipality.

On Friday a hand grenade was found on Eerste Coehoornstraat in the center of Amsterdam.
