More surgery for victim of Hague explosion; father still in coma

A 28-year-old man who spent eight hours trapped under rubble after a gas explosion leveled a building in The Hague on Sunday, again underwent surgery on Wednesday. As with the first operations, the surgery was to his legs. The operation was successful, his brother said to Omroep West.

The condition of the other two still hospitalized victims - the 28-year-old man's parents - remains unchanged, according to the broadcaster. The father is still in a medically induced coma. The hope is that he can be waken on Thursday. The mother will undergo surgery for internal injuries on Thursday. The three family members are in different hospitals in The Hague and Rotterdam.

A total of 10 people were injured in the explosion. Three apartments were completely destroyed when the building on Jan van der Heijdenstraat partially collapsed. According to experts, it is a miracle that no one died, including the rescue workers who spent eight hours digging the 28-year-old man out of the rubble in a extremely dangerous conditions.

Multiple homes on the street were evacuated as a precaution, according to NOS. The residents of 12 of those homes were allowed to return on Wednesday, after the municipality concluded that these homes were stable and safe.
