Motorists be warned: Roads still slick after Tuesday's snow

While the snowfall may be over for most of the Netherlands, roads throughout the country can still be slick due to wet areas freezing overnight and leftover snow. Meteorological institute KNMI issued a code yellow warning for the entire country.

The code yellow warning is in effect until at least noon. By then most of the iciness on the roads should have melted away, the KNMI expects.

On Tuesday evening a layer of snow caused nearly 2,300 kilometers of traffic jams on Dutch roads - the most traffic ever since the ANWB starting measuring it through GPS in 2015. According to the ANWB, the biggest problems were in the region Arnhem, Utrecht and Eindhoven, RTL Nieuws reports. The Randstad roads were relatively quiet during evening rush hour, because it wasn't snowing there.

On Wednesday the NS trains will run according to the usual timetable again. On Tuesday NS and ProRail scrapped around 20 percent of the trains, in order to be able to better absorb any problems caused by the snowfall.

Wednesday will be mostly cloudy, though the southeastern and eastern parts of the country will see some sunshine, according to the KNMI. Afternoon temperatures will range from 0 degrees Celsius in the east to 3 degrees along the coast. Zeeland may still get some snowfall.
