Amsterdam homes evacuated after ATM bombing

Multiple homes on Slotermeerlaan in Amsterdam were evacuated on Friday morning after an ATM bombing. Perpetrators blew open a GWK ATM at around 5:00 a.m. Whether they got away with any cash is not yet clear, AT5 reports.

The bombing caused a large amount of damage. Windows of nearby buildings were shattered, and fragments of the ATM were found on the other side of the street.

Witnesses told AT5 that the bombing was committed by two men, who fled on a scooter. The police are investigating. The Ministry of Defense's explosives experts are also at the scene.

ATM bombings seem to be increasingly popular among Amsterdam criminals. In December there were five ATM bombings in the Dutch capital, including at ATMs on Koningin Wilhelminaplein, Surinameplein and Delflandplein, according to the Amsterdam broadcaster.
