Amsterdam exchange AEX drops to lowest point in nearly 2 years

Amsterdam's stock exchange AEX closed on Monday at its lowest point since February 2017. The AEX index closed 1.7 percent lower at 495.31, the Telegraaf reports.

According to ING investment strategist Simon Wiersma, the uncertainty about the Brexit increased on Monday due to the postponement of the British House of Commons' vote on the Brexit deal. "And if there is one thing investors hate, it's uncertainty", he said to the newspaper. A negative opening on Wall Street also played a role.

Altice Europe saw the biggest drop on the AEX. The French cable and telecom provider dropped 7.9 percent. Dutch telecom company KPN dropped 2.3 percent, insurer Aegon fell 3.6 percent, and Royal Dutch Shell dropped 2.5 percent.

Among the medium-sized funds, specialist steel group AMG saw the biggest plummet at 9.2 percent in response to the fall in steel prices. Dredging company Boskalis dropped 6.1 percent, soil researcher Fugro stood at -6.3 percent, and PostNL at -6 percent.
