Police shoot knife carrying man in Emmeloord
The police shot a man who was walking on an Emmeloord street carrying knives in the leg on Monday morning. He was arrested and taken to hospital for treatment, the police said in a statement.
The incident happened on Veluwelaan. "At around 7:30 a.m. multiple reports came in from local residents that saw the man walking on the street with knives", the police said. During the arrest, a responding officer first fired a warning shot, according to the police. "After that the suspect was shot in the leg, after which officers could overpower him."
The man was taken to hospital for treatment. The severity of his injuries is unknown.
The Rijksrecherche, the department that handles internal investigations at government services like the police, will investigate the incident. This is standard procedure whenever a police officer fires his or her service weapon.
