Police shoot suspect in stabbing at Amsterdam Centraal

Update 3:00 p.m. - The police concluded their investigation by around 2:30 p.m. Tram traffic on the west side of the station was moving again by 2:50 p.m. NS still reports delays up to 60 minutes due to fewer trains running. Train traffic should be back on schedule by around 4:30 p.m., NS said.

The police fired shots at a stabbing incident at Amsterdam Central Station on Friday afternoon. A total of three people, two victims and the perpetrator, were taken to hospital with unknown injuries.

The incident happened in the west tunnel of the station. Witnesses told AT5 that two persons got into a fight on a platform in the station. The fight escalated and a knife was drawn. The police had to shoot to stop the suspect. The suspect was arrested and also taken to hospital.

Emergency services responded to the incident en masse. One ambulance departed at about 12:30 p.m. with a police escort, another ambulance left the station ten minutes later escorted by two police vehicles and a trauma team. A third ambulance left under police escort at 12:52 p.m.

The police closed down the west side of the station for investigation. The area was still on lockdown as of 1:00 p.m. People are being allowed to use the other entrances of Central Station. 

The police stressed that Amsterdam Central Station was not evacuated. Only tracks 4 and 5 aren't accessible to train and tram traffic.
