Schiphol security strike canceled
A planned strike by security workers at Schiphol airport next week, has been canceled, trade union De Unie reports. Last night the unions and security companies reached a principle collective bargaining agreement for the 4 thousand security workers at the Amsterdam airport, the union said, AD reports.
Agreements were made on lightening security workers' workloads, shortening their working hours, and a once off wage increase of 700 euros in 2018 and a total of 5 percent for 2019 and 2020. "Thanks to the agreements made, the security officers are able to find a better balance between work and private life. With a good pay rise, employers show that they value Schiphol security guards for the important work they do day and night", De Unie said in a press release.
According to the union, the security companies and unions De Unie, FNV and CNV negotiated feverishly to prevent the strike and a lawsuit filed by Schiphol. The strike was planned for September 4th and would have affected around 200 thousand travelers.
Schiphol could not yet give the newspaper a response on the canceled strike, because the airport hasn't officially been informed yet.
