Dutch cyclist killed in Australia; hit by stolen car

A 27-year-old woman from the Netherlands died in the Australian city of Melbourne on Sunday after she was hit by a car. According to the Australian police, the car was stolen a week ago. The driver fled the scene of the accident, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to NU.nl.

The woman was cycling when the car hit her. The car also hit various other vehicles, but the Dutch victim was the only person who got hurt. Emergency services tried to save her, but it was to no avail. She died at the scene.

The Australian police are still looking for the driver of the car.

Local broadcaster 7 News Melbourne reports that the Dutch woman was in Australia for her work and had been living there fore some time. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs could not confirm this to NU.nl for privacy reasons.
