Car troubles hit thousands of Dutch holidaymakers

Dutch holidaymakers abroad were massively hit by car troubles over the weekend. The ANWB support centers were flooded with calls about punctures, overheated engines, broken batteries and other car related problems, RTL Nieuws reports.

The ANWB support center in Lyon received 1,600 calls on one day. "A huge number. It is clear to see that the whole of the Netherlands is on holiday", an ANWB spokesperson said to the broadcaster.

By far the most reports came from France, followed by Italy an Germany. The offices in the Netherlands are also running at full speed.

The ANWB has support centers in Lyon, Barcelona, Munich and Athens. These centers have a network of local companies that can help Dutch with car problems.

The coming weeks will remain busy, the ANWB expects.
