Busy roads expected this weekend due to holidays, festivals

Motorists can expect busy roads and traffic jams this weekend, both at home and abroad. In the Netherlands the roads will be crowded due to festivals and concerts. And many holidaymakers are expected on the roads abroad, RTL Nieuws reports.

There will almost certainly be traffic problems around the Achterhoek, because of the Zwarte Cross festival. Every year this festival attracts some 220 thousand visitors, all heading towards the festival site at Lichtenvoorde and surrounding campsites. The organization calls on visitors to use public transit. In Amsterdam the roads will be busy due to the sold-out Kensington concert in the ArenA. And around Rotterdam there may be traffic due to the North Sea Jazz Festival.

Summer holiday starts for the Midden region this week, but that is not expected to cause much traffic. At most the roads around Utrecht and Arnhem may be busier than usual.

Roads elsewhere in Europe are also expected to by busy this weekend due to a flood of holidaymakers. France is celebrating its national holiday 'Quatorze Juillet' on Saturday, which in the past often led to massive traffic jams. And the holiday period is also starting for the North Rhine-Westphalia region in Germany.
