Mother of baby found dead in Amsterdam bushes identified
The mother of a newborn boy whose body was found among some bushes along the Sloterplas in Amsterdam in 2016, was finally identified. The 25-year-old woman from Amsterdam West was arrested on June 13th on suspicion of involvement in her baby's death and hiding his body, the police said in a statement on Wednesday.
The woman was in restricted custody, which is why the police only now announced her arrest. The court recently ruled that she can await the Public Prosecutor's decision on whether or not she will be prosecuted in freedom.
The newborn baby boy was found in a sports bag among bushes along the Sloterplas on June 8th, 2016. It is unclear how the baby died or how long he was hidden before being found by a passerby. According to the police, the baby boy was no more than a few days old. He was born after a nearly full-term pregnancy of at least 36 weeks and weighed about 1,7 kilograms at birth. He was buried in Amsterdam in August 2016.
The police identified the mother after questioning the child's 30-year-old father, who was identified and arrested last month. The father was identified through a DNA kinship investigation.
