Girl, 6, found safe after abduction; bundled into car's trunk
A 6-year-old girl was abducted for a short time in Weert, Limburg on Wednesday evening. She was playing in a playground on Maastrichtstraat when an unknown man bundled her into the trunk of his car. She was found unharmed, but terribly shaken, a short time later, the police said in a statement.
The incident happened around 6:00 p.m. Witnesses told newspaper De Limburger that the man spoke to the girl and asked her to get into his car. When she refused, he grabbed her, bundled her into the trunk of his car and drove off. According to NOS, the trunk did not close properly. A witness saw the little girl in the trunk and called the police.
The police found the girl a few streets on. It is not clear whether the man released her, or she got away by herself. She is now back with her family, and very shaken, according to the police.
The police are looking for witnesses. The man drove a newer model white car, presumably a Volkswagen Golf or a similar model. The car was seen on Maastrichtstraat and Nedermaaslaan. A witness told the police that an older man on a bicycle and a woman driving an old model Ford Ka could have seen the abductor on Nedermaaslaan. Investigators would like to make contact with these two people.
