Amsterdam shooting victim identified as British-Dutch criminal: report

A man who was seriously injured in a shooting on Stromarkt in Amsterdam on Saturday night, is British-Dutch criminal Allan P., according to Amsterdam newspaper Het Parool.

The man was shot once in the head on Stromarkt around 11:30 p.m. The gunman fled and is still at large, despite a large-scale police search.

Allan P. was born in the United Kingdom in 1963 and has been living in the Netherlands since 1979, according to the newspaper. He's been in contact with the authorities as a suspect in numerous crimes. Before 2001 he was convicted for a number of drug- and weapon related offenses. He was declared an 'unwanted foreigner' because he "constitutes a current and sufficiently serious threat to public order", but a court later overturned this declaration because it did not comply with the policy rules later introduced.

In 2014 P. was arrested for using a forged South African driver's license to identify himself to a police officer. He was initially sentenced to six months in prison, but that sentence was reduced to just over two months on appeal.

A year later P. was a suspect in the criminal case around spy shop One2Spy. The spy shop on Admiraal de Ruijterweg in Amsterdam was used to trade firearms and weapons on a large scale, according to the police. P. was prosecuted for showing a firearm to two undercover British agents, who were deployed to investigate the arms trade through the shop. The court eventually acquitted P., ruling that it could not be conclusively proven that what P. showed the undercover agents was indeed a working firearm.
