Suspects in Amsterdam girl's kidnapping released from custody

The last two suspects in the abduction of Amsterdam girl Insiya Hemani who were still in custody, can await their trial in freedom, the court in Amsterdam ruled. Both suspects, Robert B. and Daniel C., are American and can await their trial in the United States, RTL Nieuws reports.

Robert B., 49, was previously released from custody, but was arrested again after he tried to illegally get a passport, according to RTL Nieuws. His pre-trail detention was lifted because otherwise he would be in custody for longer than a possible sentence, according to the court.

Daniel C., 53, was in custody in the United States for months before being extradited to the Netherlands in March. Shortly after his arrival the magistrate released him from custody under strict conditions. The court now ruled that he does not have to go back into custody and can leave the Netherlands, but must keep himself available to the Dutch authorities.

The now 4-year-old Insiya was abducted from her grandmother's apartment in Amsterdam in September 2016. She was taken to India, where she is now living with her father Shehzad Hemani. He is suspected of organizing the abduction. Including Hemani, there are a total of eight suspects in this case.

A court in India previously ruled that Insiya should be returned to her mother Nadia Rashid in March, but so far that hasn't happened. Hemani filed an appeal against the ruling, and the appeal case was delayed.
