Man stabs three passersby on Amsterdam street
A 32-year-old man from Arnhem stabbed three people in the Amsterdam neighborhood of De Baarsjes in an apparent attempt to steal their scooters and car on Tuesday night. He was arrested a short time later, the police said in a statement on Wednesday.
Around 11:00 p.m. the man jumped in front of a moving scooter on Jan Evertsenstraat and demanded that the scooter rider hand over the vehicle. The driver refused, and got stabbed. The man fled, leaving the victim bleeding on the street.
A short time later, the man confronted another scooter rider, again demanding the scooter. The second victim also refused and was stabbed. This victim managed to get to the hospital himself.
The suspect then attacked a motorist, demanding the car. The motorist refused and was also stabbed. The suspect fled, leaving the injured motorist behind.
The police traced the man using surveillance camera footage and arrested him on Witte de Withstraat. The surveillance camera footage also showed the man throwing something away shortly before his arrest. The police found the item - a knife - and confiscated it. The suspect is in custody for further investigation.
The first and third victim were taken to hospital. The second victim went to hospital himself. According to the police, they are all in a stable condition.
The police call on witnesses of these incidents to come forward.
