Woman delivering newspapers beaten, left bleeding in freezing cold

Angela Blakenburg was assaulted and left in the freezing cold while delivering newspapers in her home town of Hulst, Zeeland on Thursday morning. The perpetrator beat her hard on the head from behind and left her unconscious on the street, without even stealing anything, the 47-year-old woman said to newspaper AD.

The assault happened around 6:15 a.m. on Schumannstraat. "I felt a hard hit on my head and fell to the ground", Blakenburg said. She woke up around half an hour later. "I was really stone cold when I woke up. All my newspapers had blown away and I was bleeding a lot. I panicked a lot and did not know which way to go." She was left with a concussion, a bump to the head and injuries on her face.

The perpetrator did not even take anything. "The only thing I missed was my package of shag. But my bike was still there and I also had an expensive phone in my pocket", she said. "I find it so cowardly. I just want to know why? I don't hurt anyone. I just want to deliver my newspapers."

As Blakenburg was attacked from behind, she can give no description of the perpetrator. The police are looking for witnesses, a spokesperson said to AD.
