False Alarm: International train evacuated over "suspicious situation"

The police evacuated all passengers from a train stopped near Oldenzaal station over a "suspicious situation" on Thursday afternoon. The area around the station is closed down. Police officers, sniffer dogs, and the Koninklijke Marechaussee are at the scene to investigate exactly what is going on, the Oldenzaal police said on Twitter.

ProRail says that a threatening letter was found regarding the train - an international train from Amsterdam to Berlin, according to the rail manager. The police can not confirm this. "According to the police, there is a suspicious situation. This prompted us to stop the train near Oldenzaal station. The train was evacuated by order of the police", a spokesperson for ProRail said to AD.

Passengers evacuated from the train told NU.nl that the police searched for someone or something on the train.

According to the police, a total of 85 passengers were evacuated from the train. They are gathered near the station. The passengers' details were taken down, the police confirmed. "This is standard procedure in such suspicious situations." Officers explained to the travelers why this was done.
