Family attacks police to prevent car being seized

Three members of a family in the Noord-Holland town of Uitgeest threatened, insulted and even attacked police officers to prevent them seizing their car, NOS reports.

A judge decided that the car had to be confiscated - why was not revealed. The police went to their home on Thursday to do so, but the family refused to hand over the keys. When the officers tried to call in a towing vehicle, the situation escalated.

A 45-year-old man, his 40-year-old wife and their 21-year-old daughter started threatening and insulting the police officers. One of the officers even received a few punches. "The police first got into a conversation, but that became an increasingly unpleasant, and at one point one of the police officers got a hard blow", a spokesperson for the Noord-Holland police said to the broadcaster. The officer did not sustain any injury.

"When a quarrel started between mother and daughter, the man manged to get into the car and flee", the spokesperson said. He sped away and was later arrested by a community police officer. The car was seized and the woman and daughter were also arrested.

On Friday morning they were all still in custody at a police station.
