Woman found wounded next to Dutch highway was held hostage for days, raped, beaten

A 38-year-old woman was found seriously injured along the A12 highway near Maarsbergen in late March. A man held her captive in a home in Zeist for days, raping and beating her, the prosecutor revealed during a preliminary hearing in the case on Wednesday, NU.nl reports.

Police found the woman near the Maarsbergen exit at around 6:15 a.m. on March 30 following reports from motorists. She had been reported missing a few days earlier and was badly wounded.

The suspect, a 52-year-old man from Zeist, was arrested on April 1. The police identified him through licence plate registration along the highway.

According to the Public Prosecution Service (OM), the man held the woman against her will in his home from March 24 to March 40. He raped her and severely assaulted her. He stabbed her with a knife, kicked her, and punched her. The police found footage of the assault on the suspect’s phone, AD reported.

On March 30th, he drove her to the A12 highway, pushed her out of the car, and allegedly drove over her.

The prosecutor did not say whether the suspect and victim knew each other or how they crossed paths.

The man is facing charges of attempted manslaughter, unlawful deprivation of liberty, rape, and assault. He will be admitted to the Pieter Baan Center for psychiatric evaluation
