More Dutch billionaires, few women on Quote 500

The Quote 500 of richest Dutch contains more billionaires than ever before this year. The Netherlands currently counts 26 people worth more than a billion euros. Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken is the richest Dutch person. And despite the list being topped by a woman, Quote calls it "painful" how few women made the list, the Volkskrant reports.

Over the past year the richest Dutch managed to increase their total assets to 146.4 billion euros, 25 percent more than last year. The bottom line to be part of the list of the 500 wealthiest persons in the Netherlands, is now at 71 million euros, 16 million euros more than last year.

Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken, daughter of deceased beer magnate Freddy Heineken, tops the list with a capital of 12.5 billion euros, an increase of 13 percent compared to last year. In previous years Quote put De Carvalho-Heineken on a separate list for Dutch abroad - she lives in London - but decided to change that this year "due to globalization".

Second on the list is Randstad founder Frits Golschmeding with a capital of 4.3 billion euros, followed by construction entrepreneur Dik Wessels at 4 billion euros, Ralph Sonnenberg of Luxaflex producer Hunter Douglas at 2.7 billion euros and media magnate John de Mol at 2.6 billion euros.

According to Quote, it is striking that so many of the people on the richest list did not make their fortunes on hip tech developments or smart startups, but with the production industry and old-fashioned business models.
