Eight arrested on Kaatsheuvel camp ground

The police arrested eight people on the Droomgaard camp ground in Kaatsheuvel during a large-scale check over the weekend. One detainee had an outstanding prison sentence, and two others had outstanding fines, Omroep Brabant reports.

One of the other detainees was wanted in another case, and another had to give a DNA sample for an ongoing investigation. The other suspects were arrested for outstanding taxes, possession of a blackjack, and driving under the influence. The police also found other violations, such as some chalets being permanently inhabited while that's not allowed, and fire safety on the camp ground not being in order.

The municipality of Loon op Zand, under which Kaatsheuvel falls, is surprised by the many arrests. The municipality will arrange a meeting with the camp ground's owner, Oostappen Vakantieparken, a spokesperson said to Omroep Brabant.

For several years, the municipality and police held periodic checks on the camp ground. Public health service GGD and the Barka Foundation for Polish migrant workers were also involved. In addition to its large recreational area, the Droomgaard camp ground also has around 200 chalets that are permanently used as housing for migrant workers.
