Young trucker saves man from burning car in Dutch highway accident
A 19-year-old truck driver involved in an accident on the A12 highway near Oosterbeek on Monday night, pulled a man from his burning car with the help of a bystander, the police said on Tuesday morning. The 46-year-old man from Vaassen was rushed to a hospital in Utrecht in a trauma helicopter, AD reports.
The accident happened around 9:00 p.m. at the Oosterbeek off-ramp on the A12 highway towards Arnhem. The 46-year-old man crashed his car into the back of a truck, which was driven by the 19-year-old man from Oss. The car went up in flames, also setting fire to the truck.
The young trucker managed to pull the truck and the car stuck to it onto the emergency lane. He then immediately jumped out, and with the help of a witness, managed to pull the Vaassen man out of the burning wreck.
The 19-year-old sustained no injuries. A breathalyzer test showed that he was not under the influence of alcohol. A blood test was done on the Vaassen man, though the results are not yet in.
