Groningen student, 21, found dead next to train tracks

The police are investigating the cause of death of a 21-year-old man from Groningen, whose body was found next to the train tracks under the Hereweg viaduct in Groningen on Sunday morning. Investigators are still in the dark about what happened to the young man and call on witnesses to come forward.

The young man was found dead around 7:30 a.m., according to the Telegraaf. Train traffic was halted while the police investigated the area where the body was found. The body was taken to a mortuary around noon for further investigation. According to NU.nl, train traffic restarted around 12:45 p.m.

According to RTV Noord, the student was a member of a small student association in the city. Other members of the association took flowers to the viaduct on Sunday afternoon.

The police are investigating how the man died. Further investigation is being done on his body, and the police are talking to local residents and looking for camera footage that may provide more information. Investigators call on witnesses to come forward. They specifically want to talk to anyone who saw anything out of the ordinary around the Hereweg viaduct between 10:30 p.m. on Saturday and 7:00 a.m. on Sunday.
