Technical problem causes check-in delays at airports worldwide

Travelers around the world seem to be having trouble checking in for flights on Thursday. Air France, KLM, British Airways, Qantas, Vueling and a number of American airlines are among those reporting problems, AD reports.

The trouble started around 11:30 a.m., Dutch time. Exactly what the problem is, is not yet clear. Though it may stem from a network failure at Amadeus Altea - an aviation service provider that provides the flight booking system for around 125 airlines. Amadeus announced that its systems will be restarted as soon as possible.

On Twitter KLM said that the airline is experiencing technical issues. "Unfortunately we cannot give you a time-frame at this moment", the airline said in response to a question from a traveler about what type of delay can be expected.

Spokespersons for KLM and Schiphol could not give more information to AD or ANP.
